For many, the graduation ceremony is a significant ceremony that gives due recognition to the hardships experienced by students during their studies, and the competence and character that has supposedly been developed in them due to their formal education. So understandably, this should be a formal occasion, one that observes proper solemnity and a little more than the normal amount of pomp. Graduating students are required to dress according to the specifications of the educational institution to which they belong and which they will soon be leaving. This makes wearing the proper graduation gown a must for any graduating student who is serious about the graduation ceremony.
But the cost of a graduation outfit may be a little steep for some students and their parents, especially those who are very non-sensical and avowedly super-practical. After all, one doesn’t see people walking around the mall, or going to work in their graduation clothes! Your outfit will be used once and only once, in all probability. If you find yourself struggling with the thought of spending so much money on a graduation outfit, consider these tips to help you cut down on expenses:
Don’t buy anything that you won’t be able to use, come graduation day
This may seem obvious, but sometimes the requirements for graduation clothes can get a bit complicated, and one can make the mistake of buying the wrong kind of outfit. For example, it’s possible that your school requires a different color of gown for male and female students. In this case, you wouldn’t want to come to the ceremony dressed as the wrong gender! Also, be sure that each piece that you’re buying is of good quality; something that you won’t suddenly become ashamed of and refuse to wear when the time comes. Finally, think about the requirements that your school may be imposing with regard the length, style, material, etc., for each piece of your graduation outfit. By assuring yourself of this basic information, you’ll safeguard yourself from making any dumb mistakes (which we’re all vulnerable to).
Look for a good package deal
Some schools may offer graduation gowns and stoles and other items in different packages that may or may not include a professionally taken photograph of you and your loved ones during the ceremony and perhaps some unnecessary accessories. If you’re really serious about saving money, then you’ll want to diligently canvass for options, gradually lessen your options, and then finally go for the one that is just the right balance between affordability and commodity. This doesn’t mean that your outfit will look shabby, but if you stand out in the crowd come graduation day, it won’t be because you had a unique outfit.
Check out the internet
You should also consider outfits that are available online, since they may be cheaper than the ones that your school or the local stores are offering. If you don’t mind wearing a second-hand gown, then the internet would be a good place to start your search.
